The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s hockey team continues to break records, this time earning a top spot in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll released Monday.
UNO jumped from fourth to first, receiving 15 first-place votes to North Dakota’s eight.
The top ranking is the first in school history for the UNO hockey team.
UNO also earned a second-place ranking in the USCHO poll Monday.
UNO jumped one spot in poll, which is voted on by a panel of coaches, scouts and media members, surpassing Providence (2-0-1). The unbeaten Mavs (4-0-0) earned 15 first-place votes and trail North Dakota (2-0-2 ) by four points, 931-927. North Dakota received 16 first-place votes in the poll.
Last week, UNO jumped from No. 10 — its preseason ranking — to No. 3.
Omaha is coming off a sweep at then No. 20 Vermont last weekend, winning 4-3 and 3-1. Their 4-0-0 start is their best since 2010-11.
The Mavericks play their first two games in Baxter Arena this weekend when they host Air Force on Friday and Saturday.
