UNO professor Darryll Lewis spends his time outside of class in a unique fashion. Every week, he travels as an NFL line judge to officiate games. Wednesday Lewis shared his experiences from gaining an early interest in officiating football, to completing his doctorate, and how he balances the field with the classroom.
The event was part of the UNOrthodox speaker series, which allows students to nominate faculty to share on interesting interests, research or experiences. Lewis spoke for about half of his one hour period before fielding any and all questions. The toughest calls to make, funny stories from the field, and the replacement referees contributed to an informative, yet informal, discussion that entertained and captivated die-hard fans and others.
