The Omaha hockey team moved into the top five in both college hockey polls this week.
The Mavericks are ranked fifth in both the USCHO.com top-20 poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine top-15 poll. They have not ranked outside the Top 10 in either poll since the season began.
Omaha is one of five NCHC teams in the USCHO.com poll, joining North Dakota (4), St. Cloud State (6), Denver (11) and Minnesota Duluth (17). North Dakota, Omaha and St. Cloud State all hold the same spots in the USA Today poll with Denver coming in 12th and UMD receiving votes but no ranking.
The Mavericks are coming off a critical split at St. Cloud State last weekend, losing the opening game of the series, 4-1, before rebounding for a 7-2 victory in the finale. They are now 12-3-1 overall and 4-3-1-0/0 in the NCHC, good for fourth place.
Omaha is off until Dec. 19-20 when it hosts Arizona State at Baxter Arena.
