This week in sports: Omaha track and field begins indoor season

The Maverick track and field team opened its indoor season over the weekend at the K-State Winter Invitational. Junior Amanda Conlin led Omaha in the field events with a personal best distance of 44-03 ½. Sophomore Lauren Doeschot placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 43-00 ¼.

Junior Taryn Derickson excelled in the high jump, as she finished third with a leap of 5-04 ¼.

The track and field team has almost a month off before returning to action on Jan. 9 at the Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
