Now that all the crumbs have settled and all the pomp and circumstance has simmered down, it’s officially been decided.
The sweet taste of victory goes to Oreos, the 2020 Crunch Madness Champions.
With a thrilling victory against Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the finals, Oreos proved that they had what it takes to be the best snack in all the land. The results don’t lie and there can be no disputing it.
It wasn’t always easy for Oreo, as they faced some challenges along the way, particularly from Thin Mints in the Elite Eight and then Nacho Cheese Doritos in the Final Four. But throughout it all, Oreos continually showed why they were given the No. 1 seed at the beginning of the tournament and why they deserved to be the one to win it all.
“There’s been a lot of idolized snacks in history, and many have made their cases for being the most loved—but Oreos was put to the test being in a tough region and found ways to win game after game,” Crunch Madness co-creator Matt Kirkle said. “It’s a testament to their depth and ability to be winners, and Crunch Madness proved just that: Oreos are truly a blue blood program.”
Overall, the tournament provided for plenty of memories and moments that will go down in history. Fans celebrated when underdogs such as Thin Mints and Caramel Delights pulled upset after upset as they made a deep run in the tournament. There was much praise for the performance put on by Kit Kats, as they showed why they were more than just an eight seed.
Most of all fans were just happy to have something resembling sports that they could participate in. With the current sports-devoid landscape, fun events such as Crunch Madness serve as way to keep people who are quarantining in their homes engaged and entertained. That is exactly what Kirkle had in mind when helping to come up with this idea for UNO’s MavRadio.
“We originally wanted to find ways to stay active with our following during this timeframe of uncertainty and keep it fun for people to play along and forget about the scary things going on in our world,” said Kirkle. “We figured a great way to do that would be to have people choose between snacks because, hey who doesn’t love snacks? But in all seriousness, it’s something everyone can be involved in.”
So, while Crunch Madness may be in the rearview now, the entertainment and engagement that it provided for fans when they needed it is something to be remembered.
