The Omaha women’s basketball team improved to 6-2 on the year with their 76-67 victory over Eastern Illinois on Sunday. Eastern Illinois fell to 1-7 on the year.
The red-hot Mavericks got off to another great start and took a 43-38 lead into half behind a 16 point effort from Mikaela Shaw and 9 from Amber Vidal. Shaw would go on to record 31 points and five re-bounds while Vidal finished with 11 points.
Omaha got a solid boost from its bench as well, as it outscored Eastern Illinois’ 25-14. Senior guard Bobbi Beckwith and sophomore guard Remy Davenport each posted seven points on the game. 5’11 junior guard Abi Lujan contributed with 11 rebounds.
At the final, Omaha shot 41 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc. The Mavericks were out-rebounded 36-30 but led in steals 10-2.
Omaha looks to improve to 5-0 at Baxter Arena when they return to action and on Wednesday, hosting Midland at 7 p.m.
