Yeezy gave us the Valentine’s Day present we all deserve by dropping “The Life of Pablo” early Sunday morning. The new Kanye West album, “The Life of Pablo,” is West’s first album in nearly three years. The album features 18 new songs, creating an hour of new material in the rapper’s genre-influential discography.
West performed “Highlights” and “Ultra Light Beams” on the sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” Saturday. He released his album on the streaming service Tidal shortly after the performance as a weeklong exclusive stream. He also invited fans to purchase the album via his website.
“The Life of Pablo” — which I erroneously said the album would be called “Swish” in an earlier Gateway issue, as West has changed the title a few times already — features tracks with some of the biggest names in music, like Rihanna, Chance the Rapper and The Weekend.
West initially debuted the album during a listening party at Madison Square Garden on Friday. The release was initially planned for that evening, but West decided to add additional tracks, delaying the album until its now-official Sunday morning drop.
The decision to release his new album exclusively on Tidal first should help the Jay-Z-owned music and video streaming site reach more subscribers. Sunday evening, however, West unreleased his album to “fix” the track “Wolves.”
No word yet when he plans on re-releasing the album as of Sunday evening. Additionally, the link to purchase the album via West’s website was broken Sunday afternoon.
