A young man with ties to the University of Nebraska at Omaha died of injuries due to a car accident on Jan. 24. Nineteen year-old Zaiid Ibn El Gaines Liwaru died Saturday night just after arriving at the Nebraska Medical Center following the crash.

Liwaru spent some time as a student at UNO after graduating from Omaha North High School. Hisfather, Sharif, was a long time Program Coordinator in the Office of the Chancellor at UNO. Sharif now works as a Director with Omaha Public Schools.
Police say Liwaru’s car was heading southbound on Highway 75 at around 8:15 p.m. when it left the roadway just south of the Q Street overpass, skidded down an embankment and struck a chain-link fence.
Witnesses say that Liwaru was going at a rate of high speed just before the accident. Liwaru’s car was the only one involved in the incident. The crash still remains under investigation.
