Department of Music has busy weeks ahead

UNO’s Department of Music will be quite busy in upcoming weeks with two very important events.

The Third Annual BOCH (Bands, Orchestra and Choirs at the Holland) Festival will take place this weekend, Jan. 21-23.

More than 200 high school students were chosen to represent their schools in select ensembles. Two honor choirs (women’s and mixed) will rehearse in the Strauss Performing Arts Center on Jan. 21-22 to prepare them for their final performance at the Holland Performing Arts Center on Jan 23.

On Feb. 9-10, the Department of Music will host the UNO Show Choir Invitational. Fifty-nine local middle and high school show choirs will come to UNO and compete in UNO’s annual Show Choir Invitational, hosted by the UNO Vocal Music Department.

“During these two events, we get close to 1000 middle and high school students going through the Strauss Performing Arts Center,” said UNO music major and concert choir member Josh McDougall. “Our hope is with these festivals we can give these students a wonderful ‘out of the norm’ experience and show them what UNO Music has to offer them in the hope that they choose to come to UNO and play and/or sing with our amazing ensembles when they graduate from high school.”
