The UNO women's soccer team suffered big second halves by their opponents and dropped two matches in their weekend trip to Colorado. After a scoreless first half on Friday and a 2-1 halftime lead on Sunday, the Mavs allowed seven total goals in the second halves of both games.
UNO gave up goals early and late in Friday's match against Mercer falling 2-0 and spoiling the Mavs home debut at Werner Pak. Ashani Samuels and Will Betts had goals for the Bears, who handed UNO their fifth straight shutout of the season.
The Mavs only managed one late goal and fell 2-1 in a Saturday night matchup with future Summit League foe UMKC. Taylor Bare had both goals for the Kangaroos, who won their first home game of the season and just their second game of the year.
In their second home appearance of the year, the UNO men's soccer team will face Mercer University in a 7 p.m. match-up at the new Werner Park this Friday night. After the match with the Bears, the Mavs will only have one more home date on the year.
UNO women's soccer traveled to North Dakota last weekend, defeating North Dakota 2-1 on Friday, and dropping a 3-1 decision to North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon. With the split the Mavs move to 3-3-2 on the season, and are half way through their current eight game road trip.
The Mavs traveled to Washington last weekend earning a 1-1 draw at St. Martin's on Thursday and falling 5-0 to Seattle Pacific on Saturday. With just one goal on the weekend, UNO is still trying to find a consistent scoring threat on the roster.
The UNO women's soccer team hosted their first-ever home games as a Division 1 member last weekend, winning one and earning a draw in the other. The Mavs faced off against Central Oklahoma on Friday and Midwestern State on Sunday, two teams that had both beaten UNO a year ago.
All-Summit League forward Max Touloute came off the bench to spark his team to three goals in 15 minutes, and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne finished off UNO 6-0 Sunday afternoon. Facing their second future conference foe of the season, the Mavs were unable to capture the magic they found against Summit League member UMKC on Aug. 26.
