After beating Creighton at TD Ameritrade last Tuesday, UNO ended the week with a victory at Iowa and then fell in a sweep at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. Pitching and defense once again guided the way in a 3-1 win at Iowa City, but the Mavs were shut out in their first game against IPFW, lost a 6-3 decision on Saturday, then dropped 13-7 decision on Sunday.
The UNO baseball team competed in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational over Spring Break, winning four games and dropping three while also playing in the longest game in Division I this season. The Mavs opened with an 8-3 loss to Army, rattled off four in a row defeating Chicago State 8-4, LIU-Brooklyn 3-2, Bucknell 13-1 and Bradley 4-3, then dropped their final two games 5-2 to Jacksonville State and 3-1 to Northwestern.
UNO walked three of the first four BYU batters and allowed the first five hitters to score en route to dropping their first home game of the season 19-9. The Mavs came back to get within 8-4 but a six-run top of the fifth was more than UNO could withstand.
After a long trip to the Pacific Northwest, the UNO baseball team returned to the region and faced Missouri last Tuesday and Northern Colorado over the weekend. The Mavs fell 14-4 to the Tigers in Columbia, Mo. then went 1-2 against the Bears in Greely, Col.
The UNO baseball team earned their second win of the year in the first game of a three-game set at Seattle. The Mavs dropped the next two in a doubleheader and returned from a road trip to Washington 2-9 on the year.
When the UNO baseball team went to Pullman, Wash. last weekend, the plan was to play baseball. Eventually that happened, but it came after four days, a snow delay and two doubleheaders.
The dust has settled and the baseball, grilling and partying are over. The first College World Series held at the brand new TD Ameritrade Park wrapped up with South Carolina's 5-2 win over Florida on June 28, completing a championship series sweep and giving the Gamecocks their second straight title.
The UNO baseball team clawed its way through the losers' bracket but fell two wins shy of the MIAA tournament championship held May 12 through 15. After an opening round win in Kansas City, the Mavs dropped their next game to Emporia State, then rebounded for two more wins before losing to eventual champion Central Missouri.
