Amy Knight, coordinator of Building a Scholastic Heritage (BASH) at Creighton Preparatory High School, has always had a plan for success.
BASH is Creighton Prep’s annual dinner auction that plays an important role in the school’s ongoing commitment to deliver educational excellence. The money raised during BASH plays a key role in Creighton Prep’s ability to keep tuition affordable and provide nearly $2 million in financial assistance to students. The event consists of a gourmet dinner, raffle and both live and silent auctions.
As a University of Nebraska at Omaha alumna and former PRSSA student, Knight advises current students to join this organization and not be afraid to gain the many life experiences PRSSA has to offer. Doing this is the best way to fulfill the college experience at UNO. When describing her main inspiration to push through college graduation, she said it was a communications director from the Council Bluffs schools that presented to one of her classes. Hearing a seasoned professional give insight who worked in the communications field preach to young minds about what goes on in the daily communications world made a strong connection with Knight.
With her binders filling the cabinets and not a pen out of place, staying organized is the top-shelf tip for being an event planner. “I have a binder for everything- I’m like this at home, too- it drives my family nuts,” said Knight. She is most proud of two things: being able to balance her wild work agenda with her three children and husband and working with volunteers in her daily career. When Knight thinks about her best moments working in event planning, working with the volunteer groups are her hands-down favorite. She says working with fresh groups of people all the time that are nothing less than stoked to get to work truly makes her job worth it.
Her favorite moments at UNO include becoming the President of the PR chapter her senior year of college and meeting new people and building great experiences through PRSSA. Unlike most high schoolers, Knight graduated knowing event planning was her niche and she had to run with it. Planner, wife and mother are the three words Knight uses to describe her daily life duties- she wouldn’t have it any other way.
