Congrats to the Grads! No more pencils. No more blue books. No more cry sessions after taking finals.
More than 1,100 of you lucky ducks will be graduating from the University of Nebraska at Omaha at 2 p.m. today at Baxter Arena.
You’ll be the first group of students to celebrate the first ever commencement ceremony in the arena.
Here’s what your family needs to know about today’s ceremony…
Those who cannot physically attend the ceremonies can watch them live on UNO’s USTREAM channel.
There is no fee or tickets required to attend the commencement ceremony.
Doors will open at noon with the commencement beginning promptly at 2 p.m.
There will be two students speakers; one representing the undergraduate class and one representing the graduate class.
This year’s undergraduate speaker is Jordan Koch, who will be receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis on elementary education. Koch served as student body president during the 2014-2015 school year and recently accepted a spring semester internship at the National Association of State Boards of Education in Washington D.C.
This year’s graduate speaker is Gerard Forbes, who will be receiving a Master of Business Administration. Forbes received his bachelor’s in psychology from Creighton University. He will join the UNO team as a part-time professor in August 2016.
The ceremony will also include the presentation of three awards: An Honorary Doctorate, the Citation for Alumni Achievement and the Chancellor’s Medal.
Parking will be available at Baxter Arena and at UNO’s Pacific Campus. Shuttle service from the parking lots just north of Mammel Hall to Baxter Arena will run continuously the day of the ceremony.
