Just a week after Omaha hockey opened up with a sweep of Air Force at Baxter Arena, the Omaha volleyball team made their Baxter debut with a sweep of Western Illinois on Sunday.
Omaha got off to a great start on senior day, hitting their stride late in the first set as a 10-1 run led them to
a 25-16 win. The Mavericks continued their dominance in the second and third sets, winning 25-15 and 25-18.
Michaela Schimmer led Omaha with 10 kills and 21 attacks. Kimberly Bailey contributed with 25 kills and Sydney O’Shaughnessy dominated with 35 assists.
Omaha led Western Illinois in nearly every major offensive category, out hitting the Leathernecks .240 to .061. They led in kills 49-23 and in digs 53-44. The only hiccup came in serving errors, as Omaha had twice as many as Western Illinois.
With the sweep, Omaha improves to 14-11 overall and 9-3 in the Summit League, good for second place.
The Mavericks return to action on Friday when they host South Dakota State at 7 p.m
