The Maverick Volleyball team went 0 for the Dakotas last weekend, dropping a pair of matches against South Dakota State and North Dakota State.
UNO opened the trip in Brookings, S.D., falling to the Jack Rabbits 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 10-25, 16-25). Despite the loss, two Mavs had career nights.
Senior Amy Roberts piled up a career-high 31 digs to go with three service aces. Redshirt freshman Valerie Hecht recorded a career best 11 kills.
The loss to SDSU was the second match in a row that UNO started by winning the first set then dropping the next three. The Mavs overwhelmed the Jack Rabbits in the first, hitting .243 to SDSU’s .043.
But UNO’s best mark after that was a .140 hitting percentage in the second set. The Mavs were negative in the third, barely above that in the fourth and finished behind the Jack Rabbits .225 to .087 for the match.
Saturday in Fargo, N.D., NDSU swept UNO back to Omaha with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 performance. In the loss the Mavs were led by the freshman duo of Kelley Wollak and Megan Schmale.
Wollak put in six kills and eight digs while Schmale contributed five kills and six blocks. The Bison controlled the match from the first serve, taking a 13-1 lead in the first set.
UNO was as close as 19-17 in the third set but an NDSU kill followed by back-to-back blocks extended the Bison lead, and secured the sweep. The Mavs highest hitting percentage came in the final set, but the mark was only .078.
The losses drop UNO to 6-15, 1-8 in the Summit League. The Bison improved to 8-12 overall and 5-4 in conference. SDSU’s win ran the Jack Rabbits’ record to 13-8, 5-4 in the league.
