UNO student remembered by friends as “full of joy”

David Korff was described as kind and full of joy by the students who knew and loved him. The University of Nebraska at Omaha lost Korff early Tuesday morning to a single-vehicle accident.
“David was the type of person to always make you laugh,” said Brad Newton, a UNO student who went to high school with Korff. “He was always smiling  and could cheer you up in any situation. He tried to see the good in people.”
Officers were called to 72nd and Shirley streets around 1 a.m. after  Korff struck a pole and tree when he lost control of his car.
Only 19 years old, Korff was pronounced dead on the scene.
A 2013 graduate of Westside, Korff played baseball and was in a band in high school. Covering mostly covers and a few original tracks, Korff’s music can be heard at
“I owned one of his CDs last year, and I would constantly listen thinking how someone so close to my age was so talented and wondering how he wasn’t famous yet,” said Katie Ondracek, a UNO student.
Korff’s funeral was Friday at Christ the King, where many UNO students attended to honor their classmate and friend.
“He inspired myself and many others and was probably one of the most caring and giving people I have known,” Ondracek said.
