Over the summer, Omaha Athletics released a new app that allows Omavs.com to be more accessible with the touch of a finger.

The apps are available for iPhone and Android devices. It is an outgrowth of the relationship with NeuLion which designed and hosts the athletics website.

“I think it’s beneficial because it’s easy and I believe it can keep fans and the public in the loop. It is also nice to check on fellow athletes,” senior baseball player Collin Leif said.

The app includes: hockey, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Dave Ahlers, assistant athletic director, hopes by having this app it grows the fan base. He understands that during this time, it is crucial to be represented on as many platforms as possible. The app has many different functions available. The public can get Omaha sports news, scores, upcoming schedule, roster, photos, live statistics, on demand video and live game audio.

“One day, I hope the app evolves to a place where you can stream Omaha athletic events,” former baseball player and UNO athletics intern Sam Murphy said. “The NFL and MLB all have the capability to stream their content which makes it much more convenient for the common to keep up with.”

For now, video previews and game recaps are making Omaha Athletics gain more connection with their fans on a new platform.
