The University of Nebraska at Omaha Alumni Association will host a night of “Rock Legends” to celebrate its 100-year anniversary, Friday, Nov. 8, on the UNO campus.
Alumni and friends are invited to dance the night away at the anniversary celebration at 6:30 p.m. in the east gymnasium of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) building. Billy McGuigan, UNO graduate and nationally acclaimed musician, will headline the event. His popular “Rock Legends” show features music from the 1950s to today. McGuigan is known for his ability to sell out shows and get the audience moving with his energetic stage presence.
“We are designing an intimate concert atmosphere where our guests will be close to the performance even though we expect more than 300 people to attend,” said Elizabeth Kraemer, director of alumni programming.
Along with the interactive concert where guests can vote for the music they want to hear, they can enjoy a plated dinner and authentic soda fountain dessert.
“We are very excited about this celebration,” Kraemer said. “It will give us the opportunity to pay tribute to the past and focus sights on UNO’s bright future.”
The UNO Alumni Association was founded by the Class of 1913, composed of just 13 graduates. The Association was honored at a banquet on June 6, 1913. Nearly 110,000 students have graduated since then, and more than 94,000 of these alumni are still living.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Maverick Monument and Plaza that will commemorate the Alumni Association’s centennial. The Maverick Monument, based on a fighting bull, is the first statue to represent UNO’s Maverick mascot. The monument will be “unleashed” in a public dedication in the fall of 2014.
Individual tickets for the event are $75. Several sponsorship packages also are available for companies and organizations. Those interested in purchasing tickets or signing on as a sponsor can visit the online registration page at unoalumni.org/eventregistration.
