Student Government Senators proposed the impeachment of Graduate Student Senator Jeff Wattier at last Thursday’s meeting.

Wattier exceeded the allowed number of absences. He testified that his absences were due to relocation after a house fire and dealing with personal matters. After his explanation, the senators had a brief period of discussion and voted to keep Wattier

Madison Bowman was voted in as Election Commissioner. Junior Class Senator Osamah Alhenaki resigned from his position and senators will be looking for someone to fill his position in coming sessions.

In addition to member changes, senators passed legislation to approve OrgSync and funding for shuttle buses to hockey and basketball games.

Senators approved the use of funds for OrgSync, an online management system offering communication from clubs and organizations to the rest of the student body. Senator Allen Bentley and Dan Shipp, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs championed the legislation during the session on Sept. 27. The approximate time frame for initial implementation is April 2013.

Senators also approved a measure providing funding through Student Government to have shuttles pick students up for hockey games at UNO’s north and south campuses. It will also provide funding for shuttles for basketball games. The cost of the shuttle service will be shared with the Athletic Department.

Bentley is also working on a project that would potentially offer a meal plan on north campus. Bentley is looking at possibly keeping the food court open longer in the Milo Bail Student Center since it closes at 2 p.m. daily. Bentley will be meeting with Shipp to discuss these issues.

Public Relations Officer Stephanie Montgomery discussed an upcoming town hall event with former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel. Hagel is an alumnus of UNO and served in the United States Senate for two terms concentrating heavily on foreign affairs.

The event will be held in the Mabel L. Criss Library on Nov. 2 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. The first 25 students to RSVP with Linda Riviera (lriviera@unomaha.edu) will be able to meet Hagel and have a photo taken with him. Student Government is helping promote the event, which will focus on issues related to the upcoming election.
