Following their victory over Eastern Illinois, the Omaha men’s soccer team earned the number two spot in the Summit League Tournament, held Nov. 12-14 at CIBER Field in Denver.
Host team and No. 1 seed Denver, Oral Roberts and Western Illinois also made the cut. No. 2 seed Omaha (9-5-3, 3-2-1) will face off against No. 3 seed Oral Roberts (6-6-4, 3-2-1) on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
During the season, Omaha defeated Oral Roberts 2-1 on senior day. Denver takes on Western Illinois immediately after, and the two winners will meet on Saturday at 4 p.m. to determine a Summit League champion.
The Denver Pioneers will be the team to beat in the tournament, as they just finished the season at 13-0-3, their first undefeated season in Division I history.
The Pioneers are loaded with young talent with only two seniors on the roster. Denver has been to the tournament twice under their coach Jamie Franks, who has been in control since 2012. Omaha is seeking their first NCAA tournament as a Division I soccer program. Back in October, Omaha lost to Denver 1-0.
The victor of Saturday’s match earns an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup, a 48-team single elimination tournament. The College Cup begins on Nov. 19 at campus sites and the championship will be played on Dec. 13 in Kansas City, Mo.
