As the last remaining vacancies are filling in, Aksarben Village has already had a tenant replaced.
Dudley’s Pizza & Tavern is now in the space once known as Mojo Smokehouse & Ales. Located at 2110 S. 67 St., the new hot spot is a given when planning a night out in the Aksarben area.
Opening just before the New Year, Dudley’s is already an area favorite. The décor inside emits a warm, relaxed atmosphere with its low lighting and sublte urban hints.
Owners and brothers, Tim and Robbie Malm wanted a place that was relevant to location and its historic roots.
The name is derived from one of the original Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, John Dudley. Throughout the restaurant, pictures of the Ak-Sar-Ben Race Track and Coliseum are displayed.
For those who are not aware, the original venue opened almost 100 years ago and had artists such as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra perform live. Ak-Sar-Ben also had an ice arena, hosted world-class boxing tournaments and put on nationally recognized festivals.
The area was demolished in 2004. The redevelopment produced additions to the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, a public park and outdoor music venue, new apartment complexes, hotels, office space, shopping and dining and a parking garage.
Dudley’s hopes to be the alternative option to the army of chain restaurants in Omaha. With its farmhouse-style seating, large families and other groups are easily accommodated.
The menu offers a variety of tasty appetizers and many specialty pizzas, including a fried pickle option. My personal favorite is “The Stockyard,” with its six meats for toppings. I have never had a pizza crust quite like what Dudley’s offers. It was crispy, yet doughy, and had just the right amount of sauce and cheese on it.
This hot spot also offers one of the largest selections of bottled beer in Omaha, pleasing even the pickiest beer coinsurers
I would highly recommend Dudley’s Pizza & Tavern to anyone wanting a new variety of pizza, or those wanting a unique way to end a night out.
Plus, there are two billiards tables near the big screen, you can’t argue with that.
