UNO Seniors Nkeiruka Domike and Anja Puc each placed first at the Iowa State Open this past weekend at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.
Domike, a Nigerian native, placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 42-8, which was just over nine inches short of the mark she set the weekend before at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln.
Puc, a three-time Division-II National Champion, earned first place in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:52.46, beating Iowa State’s Kersten Thorgaard by just over a second.
UNO senior Heather Minssen placed third in the shot put with a throw of 46-5 ¼ and freshman Kathie-Lee Laidley took fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5-5.
Laidley, who hails from Portmore, Jamaica, is one of nine foreign-born athletes on UNO’s roster.
The Mavs travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa this weekend to compete at the Jack Jennett Invitational at the UNI-Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa.
