Deputy stopped for DUI on campus

Campus Security played a part in stopping a drunk driver on campus early Saturday.

A Campus Security guard spotted Lt. Richard Lally, a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, driving an unmarked department vehicle the wrong way on University Drive South.

“We saw the vehicle fail to maintain the lines. When we had the opportunity to stop it, we did,” said Paul Kosel, manager of Campus Security. “We talked to the driver and determined that he was intoxicated.”

Campus Security then called the Omaha Police Department. While one guard made the initial stop, the rest of the department on that shift got involved, too.

“[Lally] was cooperative. He waited and answered all of our quetions,” Kosel said.

The 46-year-old’s blood-alcohol limit was more than twice the legal limit. He was cited with a drunken driving charge.
