The Omaha cross country team competed in the Woody Greeno Invitational over the weekend, with several runners beating their personal best records.
Karo Garcia, a junior runner from Columbus, Neb. led the team, running a 23:20.7 6K, 47 seconds faster than her previous best and good enough to finish 15th out of 60 runners in the field.
Senior Avery Schmidt followed Garcia with a 30th place finish at a time of 24:18.8, more than a minute
better than her highest finish ever.
In third place for Omaha was redshirt freshman Rosie Gensichen finished right after Schmidt in 33rd place with a time of 24:34.8.
Sophomore Alyssa Averhoff came in 36th with a time of 24:53.6 and junior Alyssa Thavenet finished in
38th at a time of 25:25.1.
As a team, Omaha finished sixthout of the six Division I teams with final score of 152. Creighton University
won the invitational with 39 points.
The Mavericks are back in action on Oct. 3 in Brookings, S.D. at the South Dakota State Classic.
