When Jason Mims was hired as the first ever men's soccer coach at UNO, he took on a position full of challenges. It was April 22, a little more than four months away from the start of the season, and Mims was the only piece in place.
The women's soccer team became the first UNO sport to compete in a Division I contest, falling 2-0 at Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday night. Hekla Palmadottir scored both goals for the Phoenix who outshot the Mavs 23-8 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.
In December 2010, Jessica Powers graduated from UNO with a B.S. in exercise science. Less than a year later, Powers is putting her degree into practice by becoming the owner of a new gym in downtown Papillion.
UNO gave up goals early and late in Friday's match against Mercer falling 2-0 and spoiling the Mavs home debut at Werner Pak. Ashani Samuels and Will Betts had goals for the Bears, who handed UNO their fifth straight shutout of the season.
