The UNO Women's Cross Country team opened the season at the UNO/Creighton Classic on Saturday at the Chili Greens Complex. Though it's only the first meet of the season, the results left the Mavs optimistic about the rest of the schedule.
In the first round of what promises to be a budding cross-town rivalry, UNO took the first shot and defeated Creighton 3-2 before 4,224 at TD Ameritrade Park Tuesday evening. Playing in Omaha for just the second time all season, the Mavs rode strong pitching performances from starter Matt Tew and reliever Curtis Smith to get the win.
When the UNO baseball team went to Pullman, Wash. last weekend, the plan was to play baseball. Eventually that happened, but it came after four days, a snow delay and two doubleheaders.
