Split with CC leaves Mavs wanting more

UNO scored nine goals in a WCHA series against #2 Colorado College, but could only manage a weekend split with the Tigers.  The Mavs won a back-and-forth, 7-5 game Friday, then got behind by two goals and lost 5-2 on Saturday.

Ryan Walters got his first two goals of the season, scoring the game winner on Friday and putting the game in a temporary 2-2 tie on Saturday.  Assistant Captain Matt White had two goals and two assists in the series, and Captain Terry Broadhurst added three points of his own.

Anatomy of a comeback

What's that popular saying about everyone loving a comeback?  In UNO's four road games, the Mavs have fallen behind every time.

Four times they have fallen behind 3-0, and three  of those times they have failed to mount a comeback.  But winning, as John Madden said, is a great deodorant.

Mavs find highs and lows at Wisconsin

Planning out a road trip to the historically rowdy Kohl Center in Madison, Wisc. is never an easy proposition for any team.  Skating a roster that includes 20 underclassmen into that environment makes the challenge that much more daunting.

Whatever Head Coach Dean Blais and the UNO coaching staff had in mind for a game plan, chances are it didn't include spotting the Badgers a 3-0 lead.  Friday the Mavs came from three down to stun Wisconsin 5-4, then lost 6-3 after another three-goal deficit on Saturday.

Sustr Gets Offensive

At six foot eight inches, Andrej Sustr is an attractive candidate to play defense for almost any college team.  His size makes him difficult to get around, and his reach makes up for the times when a guy can get around him.

Back on Track with a Sweep of the Seawolves

After the Mavs failed to score against Alaska-Anchorage in last Friday's 3-0 loss at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush, the Seawolves came to Omaha for a WCHA conference matchup and were swept by UNO 4-1 and 3-1.  With the two wins, the Mavs snapped a rare three-game losing streak and picked up their first conference points of the season.

Massa fights mono to get chance on the ice

When you're a freshman goaltender new to the program, you can expect a few hurdles on your way to earning a start in net.  Often  you have to compete with a veteran starter who's been in goal for a season or two.

Mav Offense Falls Flat in Alaska Trip

UNO only managed to score one goal in two games and left the Brice Alaska Goal Rush with losses to Alaska-Anchorage and Alaska-Fairbanks.  After failing to get a tying goal in the third period of last Saturday's loss to Colgate, the Mavs went over six periods before getting back on the scoreboard.
