"We Need to Talk About Kevin" is shocking, captivating, and at times confusing. The entire movie is comprised of snippets of time: past, present and future. The primary way to keep the timing straight is by the length of Eva's (Tilda Swinton) hair. The film is shot through the eyes of Eva, a mother struggling to raise her wicked son, Kevin. She has a husband, Franklin (John C. Reilly), who is clueless to Kevin's behaviors. Franklin thinks his family is normal, and he's always trying to be positive and cheerful. Eva also has a young daughter, Celia.
