Film Streams’ Student Night, free tickets attract large crowd

If you think cold weather will keep UNO students away from Student Night at Film Streams, think again.

Bold performances, disappointing plot

Twenty years ago, Sir Anthony Hopkins played Dr. Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs." It turned into one of the defining roles of his long, illustrious career and still terrifies viewers. In his new film "The Rite," Hopkins turns in a typically strong performance, but really it's just a riff on reliable old Hannibal the Cannibal.

Oscar-nominated short films to show at Film Streams

For the fourth year in a row, "Oscar Shorts! Academy Award Nominated Films" opens Friday, Feb. 11 at the Ruth Sokolof theater. They will present the films nominated for Best Animated Short and Best Live-Action short, as they have done in the past. For the first time, they will be showing this year's nominees for Best Documentary Short.

‘Another Year,’ another disappointment

"Another Year," directed by Mike Lee, began playing late January and can be seen at Film Streams until Feb. 10. The movie takes place in the UK and focuses on a happily married couple in their 60's. Although Tom and Gerri (Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen) seem to be very much in love, their friends and family have deep issues with getting older.

Flawless “Human”

A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living together sounds like the beginning of a really bad joke, or at the very least, a really bad ‘tween book.
