The University of Nebraska Omaha’s new $82 million arena will open October with a name familiar to many: Baxter.
In a Wednesday morning unveiling, University of Nebraska Regent Howard Hawks announced a 10-year agreement with Baxter Auto for the right to have its name on the highly-anticipated athletic arena. The automobile dealer is set to pay $400,000 annually to have its name displayed.
The “Baxter Arena” will serve as the new home for the Maverick hockey, basketball and volleyball teams, as well as host community events near 67th and Center Streets.
“We are proud of this new chapter in the partnership between UNO and Baxter Auto,” UNO’s Chancellor John Christensen said in a university-wide email letter.
Baxter Arena will seat 7,500 people and officially open with the first UNO hockey home game on Oct. 23, as the defending NCAA Midwest Regional Champions take on Air Force.
