Baxter Arena is mostly for Maverick hockey, however, the arena is going to be used for so much more.

The $82.8 million building will commit at least 33 percent of the available ice time for community use. The arena is open seven days a week. This is how the arena is reaching one of its goals to connect more to the community.

The Omaha-metro can use the two, 85-by-200 feet NHL-sized ice sheets for various activities including public skating, youth hockey, figure skating, club hockey, school skate programs, adult recreational hockey and hockey tournaments.

Campus also has other uses for the arena including campus recreation space, varsity practices, varsity games, campus organizations and religious services.

December 2015 graduates will be the first class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha to hold their commencement ceremony at Baxter Arena, graduating classes will follow suit for years to come.

Concerts and other entertainment events are in the works. Including comedians, theatre productions, local high school graduations and even movies. This is only the beginning for the arena. In the future years, Baxter Arena will have spaces our baseball, softball and tennis teams can also use.
